Caribbean and Local Food
Cocomar Comida Caribena – the best version of the local Caribbean cuisine comes from Cocomar Comida Caribena without a doubt! This restaurant is my personal favorite when it comes to local food. Serving all the standard Caribbean favorites at great prices, everything is always fresh and delicious, just consistently great food across the board. They serve the most amazing rice and beans with Caribbean chicken, it’s the signature local dish and Cocomar’s is the best in town! Definitely one of the best restaurants in Puerto Viejo, don’t miss this place!
McCloud’s Munchies – this is the BEST food cart in Puerto Viejo! The jerk chicken with rice and beans from McCloud’s Munchies is my favorite meal in Puerto Viejo, grilled to perfection and Jason’s sauces are really something special. It’s tough to choose between the jerk chicken and jerk pork because both are equally delicious, the best plan is to go with a friend and get one of each so you can share! McCloud’s Munchies is located on the main road between Nema and Salsa Brava. This is another don’t-miss spot, if I only had 24 hours in Puerto Viejo this would definitely be one of my meals.
Soda Shekina – this soda is owned by the same family as Cocomar Comida Caribena and it shows! Delicious Caribbean food and the traditional rice and beans is as good as it gets. A cozy local restaurant showcasing the fabulous food of Puerto Viejo!

Bread What What – a sandwich is only as good as the bread it is made with and we are happy to report that Bread What What is doing it right! They have an excellent menu of goodies including crepes and bowls but for me the sandwiches are where they really shine.
